Prior to starting

The Klamath District Garden Clubs have had a Memorial Garden in honor of deceased members for many years. Two years ago we were told that we needed to find a new location for the garden because the Library was planning to extend the East end of the building to enlarge the childrens library. We had investigated a few locations but when the West end of the library came up as an option, we decided that would be perfect.
The West end had 6 tall pine trees, 3 english elm, and a multitude of Aspen and Oregon Grape. Most of the Aspen and Oregon Grape needed to be removed and all of the Elm.
One of our members heard of a young man, 17 years old, who needed a project that he could plan and execute to earn his next level in his Eagel Scout group. After looking at our area and hearing our thoughts on how we would like to beautify it, he took on the project. He and his crew had to invest a minimum of 100 hours in the project. The following pictures show the process and finished product. I have really been involved and suportive of the beautification and creation of our new Memorial Garden, and am very proud of the finished area.
Please enjoy!
